Ups and Downs – A week of positives, washout events and controversy

When I started this blog I wasn’t entirely sure what direction it would go in. Would it be a kind of therapeutic diary thing where I’d open up my feelings about the journey I’ve been on with regular updates? or would it just be to record random things that I want to comment on?

I feel I’m still a bit in that phase of seeing how it goes, finding my way as it were. I’ve mostly focused on writing about the events I’ve been attending as these have been good experiences and helped me on my way and in fact I was intending to put up another review this week about one but other things have raised their head and I feel the need to talk about a number of things and hit the “therapeutic diary” button once again. Making a stand

As those of you who follow my little blog will know I attend conventions and have written about some of the recent ones I’ve been to on here. I’ve been going to these since 2003 so feel I am well experienced and have a good understanding of how things work.

Hallowhedon is an annual weekend convention run by Massive Events based around the theme of shows created by Joss Whedon. Primarily this covers Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly/Serenity and Dollhouse and unless you’ve missed the heavy clue in the title it happens on or close to Halloween.

Comic books have a very close association with a lot of the things I like be it music, movies or TV shows. They are featured at the events I go to where you will see the artists and writers doing sketches for people and discussing their work and many stalls selling old and new books. There are shows just purely dedicated to comic books too. Yet it’s an area of the fandom that I’ve never really connected with until recently (more…)

London Film and Comic Con Winter 2014

header_14v2

Another weekend, another convention. Run by Showmasters, London Film and Comic Con is a signing event more than a convention, though people interchange the phrases. A convention is really more like a themed event, say at a hotel where you will normally stay as well and where there will be evening parties, meet and greet opportunities with the guests and other things going on.

These signing events are more generic, will have a range of actors from a variety of films and shows, comic artists and writers, cosplay and authors too.

There are two LFCC events each year now, the main summer show in July and a winter one which is usually in October. (more…)
