Rediscovering MCM Comic Con – London

I’ll just put this out there. I haven’t attended an MCM event in London since October 2003. At that time it was in just one of the smaller halls at the Excel and you could circle the entire space in a few of minutes. I had just started attending signing events and went to meet Emma Caulfield and Julie Benz from Buffy the Vampire Slayer plus Garrett Wang and Tim Russ from Star Trek: Voyager.

Not particularly sure why I didn’t go to more afterwards, money was always an issue back then, other events seemed to get more of the guests I was interested in and the focus of MCM seemed to move towards Anime and Manga which is not a huge interest of mine. Then as it got bigger came the reports of how badly organised it was, too many people, difficult to get what you wanted etc which put me off even more.

This is a question I’ve been asking myself after becoming bored with a few shows I’ve had on my watch list and deciding not to continue with. After tweeting that one show had become very slow and tedious, a friend quite rightly said “stop watching it then”. I’d got so far with it but really started to ask myself why I was still watching. Was it the investment in time I’d already made making me carry on just to see if it improved? (more…)

Wales Comic Con 2014 – Part 2

This is it folks, the final Convention of the year (for me anyway). Wales Comic Con which was held at Glyndwr University, Wrexham on November 30th.

This is a fairly new event to the scene although it started in 2008, which has been run in April for the last few years and built to the point where they wanted to try a second one in November and in my view what a success it appeared to be. (more…)
